LIGHTSPEED INSTALLS 3D CINEMA EQUIPMENT FOR CONTINENTAL TEVES’ MOBILE EXHIBIT

Bellevue, WA- September, 2003: Continental Teves' "Safely There" mobile exhibit and marketing campaign, featuring a 3D high-definition film by Lightspeed is now crisscrossing the country in an 85-foot mobile exhibit powered by DepthQ 3D Cinema Technology.

Perfecting Projection Technology

Lightspeed's DepthQ Stereoscopic Media Server and inexpensive digital video projectors are used to play back the 3D film, at HDTV resolution. DepthQ is a specialized professional-quality digital server technology for the display of stereoscopic 3D film and video media. The system is easy enough for the trailer staff to operate yet rugged enough to withstand a six-month touring schedule.

No matter how much care goes into the film making process, audiences will not experience a realistic 3D movie unless the projection technology is up to the task. Lightspeed has achieved the finest 3D imagery possible using a relatively simple off-the-shelf equipment configuration.

A typical DepthQ 3D Digital Cinema is configured with two high quality DLP™ based video projectors, the DepthQ Digital Media Server and a silver screen. Lightspeed's proprietary software adds the final touch of perfection by combining the power of realtime 3D nVidia graphics (OpenGL) with Windows streaming video technology. Lightspeed algorithms fine-tune the streaming video to create the best possible 3D experience based on the dimensions of the theater where the film is being shown.

LIGHTSPEED INSTALLS STEREO 3D CINEMA AT DISCOVERY SCIENCE CENTER

Santa Ana, CA- April, 2003: Lightspeed is very pleased to announce the opening of a Stereo 3D Digital Cinema at Discovery Science Center, Santa Ana, California.

Discovery Science Center purchased a Lightspeed 3D Theater in 1998. The original configuration, currently in use at nine museums in North America, used stereo 3D lasers overlaid on stereo 3D 35mm film slides.

In 2002, Discovery decided to upgrade the theater to Lightspeed's new Stereo 3D Digital Cinema format. The new digital cinema eliminates film and allows Discovery maximum versatility of program options for their daily visitors, school groups, camp-ins, and corporate clients.

DepthQ Stereo 3D Media Server: At the center of Lightspeed's new Stereo 3D Digital Cinema is DepthQ, a cost-effective high-definition digital media server for the display of stereoscopic 3D film and video in theaters, amusement attractions, and corporate events.

NEC Digital Video Projectors Discovery's theater is equipped with two state-of-the-art NEC TriDigital HD4K 3,000 lumen DLP digital video projectors. The TriDigital HD4K gives unparalleled color fidelity and brightness to enable vivid projection onto a 20-foot-wide screen. These projectors have the look and feel of film, and strive to duplicate the mechanical and optical/light interaction of film within the current digital domain.

Lightspeed Design Group has been a producer of stereo 3D for over a decade, developing new technologies and presenting 3D to millions through our museum theaters, corporate events, and a world exposition.

Lightspeed's new Stereo 3D Digital Cinema is backward compatible with our library of seven 3D educational programs.

Lightspeed 3D Theater Network: Lightspeed's network of stereo 3D theaters has grown since our first installation at Liberty Science Center in 1996 to nine locations in North America. Over 1 million people see Lightspeed's 3D educational programs every year. The conversion of theaters like Discovery and COSI to digital cinema takes Lightspeed's very successful 3D format into the future.

"It's important for us to provide the best experience. With Lightspeed's 3D Digital Cinema, our 3D theater provides a memorable, high quality experience to visitors. The system also offers a great deal of flexibility we didn't have before. Now we can use our theater for a variety of applications, including computer presentations and DVD screenings, without bringing in extra equipment."

Press Reviews

The Pavilion of the Future takes as its theme "Saving the Life of the Planet," and the focus of its presentation lies in a two-part program titled ONE OCEAN. The program's pre-show, a four-minute, high-definition video, is a moving depiction of the impact of environmental destruction on the seas. The main program, a stunning 10-minute 3D production - complete with mist and laser effects - continues the theme with even greater efficacy. A Clear Message.
PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
