3D IP VIDEO SYSTEM AND DEPTHQ MOBILE® 3D VISUALIZATION INSTALLED AT UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, MINNEAPOLIS MN

Minneapolis, Minnesota – July 2008: Lightspeed Design, Inc. today announced the installation of two DepthQ mobile® 3D visualization suites and a 3D IP video broadcasting system, within the University of Minnesota’s SimPORTAL program.

The 3D systems will be used for training and to support two separate operating rooms based on the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci® Srobotically assisted surgical platform.

The system also includes an innovative 3D IP video broadcasting system, which allows real-time streaming of surgical procedures on the Universities local high-bandwidth network and potentially onto the internet. The new technology is capable of both 3D video IP broadcasts in full-color 3D and also a highly refined 3D anaglyph format.

The system will be further refined over the coming months and Lightspeed looks forward to the opportunity to work with the SimPORTAL on a future 3D webcast.

SimPORTAL (Simulation PeriOperative Resource for Training and Learning) is the primary simulation training “portal,” or point of entry, for the procedurally oriented departments within the Medical School at the University of Minnesota. It arranges for, or directly provides space, equipment, technical and logistical support for educational activities involving technical skills and team training via simulation. Via the Center for Research in Education and Simulation Technologies (CREST), it also supplies research and evaluation capacity to support innovation in simulation equipment, tools, and processes as well as training curricula.

DepthQ Mobile® 3D Visualization Suite
The DepthQ Mobile® 3D visualization suite is a portable stereoscopic solution for monitoring, recording and playback of all Intuitive Surgical da Vinci®, da Vinci® S and da Vinci® S HD Surgical Systems.

DepthQ Mobile® combines high-definition stereoscopic imaging with the simplicity and convenience of a 'pop-up' rolling roadcase. Simply press a button and the 3D monitor, computer, and storage drawers rise from the case on an internal lift. Monitor height is adjustable for optimized viewing – whether standing or seated.
