LIGHTSPEED ADDS SUPPORT FOR STEREOGRAPHIC'S SYNTHAGRAM TO DEPTHQ

Glasses-Free 3D Digital Software
Visual Communications Company Adds SynthaGram Support Into Software

San Rafael, CA March 30th, 2004 - Lightspeed Design Group, a corporate video producer and developer of stereoscopic 3D software technologies, has added support for the SynthaGramTM Glasses-Free 3DTM monitors to its DepthQ 3D Cinema Server software.

Chris Ward, President of Lightspeed, has worked with other autostereoscopic, or glasses-free 3D, technologies in the past and believes that the SynthaGram 202 is the only product to address the needs of high-end corporate clients in the event and exhibition industries.

"StereoGraphics has done it!" said Chris Ward. "The SynthaGram 202 is the first and only glasses-free 3D product that meets our needs. When creating 3D content for exhibitions, there are three crucial elements – there has to be real 3D depth, the 3D images have to be beautiful, clear, and wide, and the solution has to be convenient and reliable. The SynthaGram 202 is the only glasses-free 3D product that meets all three requirements."

Lightspeed was pleased with the outstanding technical support from StereoGraphics, which provided well-written white papers and a Software Developer’s Kit (SDK). Lightspeed was able to quickly understand the parameters and concepts for adding support for the SynthaGram to its DepthQ OpenGL software. The result was SynthaGram image displayed at 30 frames per second using standard compression techniques.

Lightspeed Design's DepthQ 3D Cinema Server is a specialized professional-quality server technology for the display of stereoscopic 3D film and video media. DepthQ cost effectively delivers high-resolution media to 3D theaters, museum exhibits, portable theaters, motion simulators, and corporate events.

Lightspeed premiered the SynthaGram driven by DepthQ at the Exhibitor Show in Las Vegas, March 15th-17th. Reaction to the SynthaGram from exhibition experts and marketing executives was excellent, and many exhibitors are considering incorporating the SynthaGram into their exhibit plans.

Perfecting Projection Technology

Lightspeed's DepthQ Stereoscopic Media Server and inexpensive digital video projectors are used to play back the 3D film, at HDTV resolution. DepthQ is a specialized professional-quality digital server technology for the display of stereoscopic 3D film and video media. The system is easy enough for the trailer staff to operate yet rugged enough to withstand a six-month touring schedule.

No matter how much care goes into the film making process, audiences will not experience a realistic 3D movie unless the projection technology is up to the task. Lightspeed has achieved the finest 3D imagery possible using a relatively simple off-the-shelf equipment configuration.

A typical DepthQ 3D Digital Cinema is configured with two high quality DLP™ based video projectors, the DepthQ Digital Media Server and a silver screen. Lightspeed's proprietary software adds the final touch of perfection by combining the power of realtime 3D nVidia graphics (OpenGL) with Windows streaming video technology. Lightspeed algorithms fine-tune the streaming video to create the best possible 3D experience based on the dimensions of the theater where the film is being shown.
